Carers Support Counselling: Looking After the Ones Who Look After Others

Caring for a loved one can be deeply rewarding—but also incredibly challenging. Whether you’re supporting a child with disability, an ageing parent, or a partner with mental health needs, the emotional and physical toll of caregiving is real. That’s why services like Carers NSW provide free access to professional counselling for eligible carers across New South Wales.

At Zenvia, we’re proud to be an approved provider under the Carers NSW counselling program. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or emotionally isolated, support is available—on your terms, from the comfort of your home.

What Is Carers Support Counselling?

Carers counselling is short-term emotional and psychological support offered to unpaid carers. It’s designed to help you maintain your wellbeing while managing the demands of caring for someone else.

Common focus areas include:

  • Carer burnout and stress
  • Grief and loss
  • Managing guilt or resentment
  • Setting boundaries and self-care strategies
  • Coping with the changing needs of a loved one
  • Balancing caring duties with work, family, and life

Counselling gives carers a safe space to process complex emotions and develop healthier ways to cope.

Who Can Access This Support?

You may be eligible for free counselling if you:

  • Live in New South Wales
  • Are an unpaid carer (i.e. not employed as a support worker or nurse)
  • Care for someone with a disability, chronic illness, mental health condition, or who is ageing

Eligibility is assessed by Carers NSW, who can allocate up to 6 sessions per year with an approved provider like Zenvia.

Why Counselling for Carers Matters

Many carers wait until they reach crisis point to seek help. But early support can prevent burnout, reduce feelings of isolation, and improve your capacity to continue providing care.

Carers counselling isn’t about “fixing” anything. It’s about giving you a space to talk honestly, breathe deeply, and receive the support you deserve.
